To commemorate the centennial of the admission of Illinois to statehood in 1918, seventh and eighth grade students throughout Lake County were asked to write histories of their townships. Presented here are two of those histories written from the students’ perspective.

The first is a history of Vernon Township written by seventh and eighth grade students at Tripp School, one of whom was our own Ruth Rockenbach. Read the Vernon Township history here.

The second is the history of Deerfield Township as recorded by the seventh and eighth grade students at the Deerfield Grammar School. Read the Deerfield Township history here.
