Catlow Log Cabin
This log cabin was the original home of John Edward and Elizabeth (Kitson) Catlow. John and Elizabeth sailed with their four children (Elizabeth, Wright, James and Joseph) from Liverpool, England on the ship Constellation (see passenger list), arriving in New York on September 2, 1856.
The exact date this cabin was constructed is not known, but it was likely not long after their arrival. The construction is typical of the log homes built by pioneers in the Barrington area during that period. The cabin was located just east of what is now the intersection of Ela Road and Lake Cook Road.
Joseph Goodman Catlow was one of the sons who made the journey from England to Illinois. Joseph Goodman Catlow was the father of Elizabeth (Lizzie) Catlow who married Almon Rockenbach in 1899.
